Fantasy Drawings For The International New Age Trade Show
Hello Friends!
Last weekend we celebrated the Summer Solstice. I had some friends over to help bless my new home site. I will have more photo’s of ground breaking to come…
This week, I focused on fantasy drawings for the INATS show (International New Age Trade Show). This trade show is in Denver and will last through Monday.
For my first drawing, I started with a unicorn fairy… You know how I love horses! This is my personal favorite! Any color suggestions?
This dragon drawing was the hardest. There are no references for this!
This was designed especially for fans of Tinkerbell.
And last… Fairy Lovers. This special request is my first male fairy. I think he is adorable!
All of these drawings will eventually be made into figurines. If you like to see a sample of Bergsma fantasy figurines you are welcomed to click here

Here is my daughter Jessi riding her very own unicorn. You just have to believe in magic to see the horn!
Have a great week.
Best to all of you… Jody

Wow, your drawings are beautiful. I love when you do what I call “sunset” colors. I have the print that you did of the power animals with a wolf, eagle, fox, buffalo with purples, dark pinky colors, dusky blues over my fireplace.
I’m very excited that you drew a male fairy. My husband loves angels and fairies but says that most drawings of the males are too girly. He wants strong males – almost warriors.
I want to start painting. My husband bought me a set of watercolors for Mothers Day two years ago and I just got them out. The white is completely dried out. I was wondering if you could recommendation for a good book on techniques. My husband bought me a book called the “Complete Watercolor Course” by Amber but I just haven’t been able to get into it. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks! Phyllis

Dear Phyllis,
I will be sure to put some purples in the new fantasy pieces… and I hope my male fairy is manly enough (I will keep this in mind while I’m painting).
By next year I will be offering small watercolor classes. Taking a class is much more inspiring then learning from a book. Once you get your basic’s down books are a fantastic resource. I will start a list of interested students and if you would like to be on the list please contact Tara in the art department at art@bergsma.com.

I will definitely want to be on that list – although I am in Eugene so maybe you could sometime have a weekend end or multi-day seminar or something…I guess I’m not sure how to start and you’re completely right in stating that the book is not very inspiring. So how to get inspired is a better question for me to be asking myself, I guess. Thank you!

I think I have missed something. What ground breaking are you going to send pictures of soon?
Lorrie said this on June 26, 2009 at 6:10 pm |
Hi Lorrie,
I am going to build a new house and studio. It is my life long dream. Not only will I have a watercolor studio, I will also have a place to do my oil paintings. The dozers arrive on the 18th and I will document the progress occasionally in the blog. This site will have a place for art shows and I will have one once a year in October. Hope to see you there! Best to you, Jody
